Commission targets library website overhaul, accessibility improvements

Commission on Disability · Meeting of April 14, 2026

Bedford Commission on Disability advances library accessibility grant. The Commission directed members to draft support letters for a Massachusetts Office on Disability Municipal ADA Improvement Grant application to overhaul the Bedford Free Public Library's website and expand its large print collection. Library Director Jackie Powers and Vice Chair Howard Sumner noted the website does not currently meet ADA guidelines and the collection lacks sufficient super large print books for individuals with low vision.

The Commission also established a new resident contact form to streamline accessibility improvement requests and authorized Member Amy Kelly to advocate for hybrid access to town committees.
