BEDFORD — Community Media Committee confronts BCAT's projected funding exhaustion by FY28. Chair Matthew Porter presented town financial projections showing Bedford Television's Special Revenue Account, funded through cable franchise fees, faces depletion as cable subscribers decline and expenses rise roughly 3 percent annually. A deficit of approximately $38,000 is projected by FY29 if trends continue.
Town Manager Matt Hanson recommended the expiring BCAT-Town contract be renewed for one year rather than the standard three years, preserving flexibility as the funding picture evolves. The committee agreed to vote on the contract at its May 13 meeting after reviewing the draft. Newly promoted BCAT Director of Operations Jennifer Puhle raised concern that a one-year term could create staff retention challenges.
