Bedford, MAPC to Hold Forum on Fire Station's Future Use

BEDFORD — Town officials and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council will hold a public forum this month on the future use of 55 The Great Road, the town's current fire station property. The announcement came alongside notice of a weeklong closure at Fawn Lake and plans for a Select Board-hosted gathering on the Town Common.

The Select Board and Town Manager's Office are hosting a Summer Biergarten on the Town Common, inviting residents to an afternoon of music, food and beer, according to a post on the town's website. A specific date for the gathering was not included in the announcement.

Separately, the town and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council are inviting residents to weigh in on what should become of 55 The Great Road — the site of Bedford's existing fire station — as part of a broader conversation about the property's future use. A virtual public forum on the topic is scheduled for later this month.

Fawn Lake will be closed to public access from Tuesday, July 14, through Friday, July 17, for previously announced work, the town said in a News Flash alert.

In Billerica, work has begun on a two-year project to build that town's Yankee Doodle Bike Path, prompting a temporary closure of the Narrow Gauge Rail Trail at the Bedford-Billerica town line, according to Bedford's town website.
