Select Board Posts FY27 Warrant; Addresses Hanscom Student Tuition Issue
Select Board · Meeting of March 9, 2026
BEDFORD — Select Board posts FY27 warrant, clearing 31 articles for May town meeting on a 4-0-0 vote while deferring Articles 13, 14, and 26 for further deliberation. Town Manager Matt Hanson led a discussion on a longstanding administrative practice that obligates Bedford taxpayers to cover Shawsheen Valley Technical High School tuition for Hanscom Air Force Base students coded as Bedford residents in the enrollment system, despite federal Impact Aid covering only those attending Bedford High School. Shawn Hanegan secured unanimous support for a $18,900 Metropolitan Area Planning Council proposal to explore reuse options for the fire station at 55 Great Road.
The Board advanced a Transportation Advisory Committee presentation on proposed state legislation authorizing municipalities to use automated traffic safety cameras for traffic enforcement, with studies showing 20-70 percent reductions in speeding and 30-40 percent reductions in crashes, but deferred endorsement pending questions about implementation scope and funding.
