Finance Committee approves tax work-off reimbursement increase, defers free cash vote.

Finance Committee · Meeting of March 5, 2026

BEDFORD — Finance Committee backs tax work-off increase and zoning amendment. Chair Ben Thomas and the committee voted 7-0 to recommend Article 3, raising the maximum annual tax work-off reimbursement from $1,000 to $1,500, and unanimously approved the revised Zoning Bylaw Amendment on Unregistered Vehicles in Article 32. The committee deferred voting on Article 34, which would appropriate Free Cash to reduce the fiscal year 2027 tax levy, pending an updated summary from the Town Manager's office; current Free Cash usage stands at 53 percent, slightly above the committee's 50 percent guideline.

On Article 21, the committee continued discussion of a Tax Deferral for Renovated Historic Properties submitted by the Historic District Commission, with members divided on whether the proposal would be effective.
