Council on Aging · Meeting of June 23, 2026
Bedford Council on Aging met with town leadership to chart transportation funding strategy. The board convened with Town Manager Matt Hanson and Health and Human Services Director Heidi Porter to develop a multi-year advocacy plan focused on securing funding for a second medical-ride vehicle and dedicated driver after turning down a MassDOT grant covering 85 percent of an accessible vehicle due to insufficient local matching funds. Mr.
Hanson advised the COA to engage directly with the Select Board and Finance Committee before the November-December budget planning cycle, noting that the board has time to build case materials and broader town support. The board elected Paul Fath as Chair, Marilou Barsam as Vice-Chair, and Tom Kinzer as Clerk for fiscal year 2027.
