BEDFORD — Council on Aging prepares transportation advocacy focused on second vehicle. Director Alison Cservenschi reported that Bedford Local Transit serves 18 to 22 riders daily, with 52 percent of users surveyed interested in out-of-town medical rides. The board plans to present demographic data showing residents aged 60 and older approaching one-third of the population by 2030, advocating for a dedicated second vehicle and driver as the long-term solution.
Interim measures include increasing Wheels of Life Program funding from $300 to $500 per rider and piloting an Uber Health program at $10 per ride, up to four monthly. The council will meet twice in September to finalize its presentation.
