Committee explores merger for BCAT as cable revenues decline

BEDFORD — Community Media Committee charts path for Bedford's public access television station. Chair Matthew Porter presented financial projections showing BCAT's cable-funded Special Revenue Account will be depleted by fiscal year 2029 as cable subscribers decline 8 percent annually. Bryan Carr argued that continuing the current funding model is not practical given declining revenues, with committee consensus favoring eventual municipal absorption of the station over continued independence.
The town could save approximately $35,000 per year in rent through merger, compared with direct subsidy as an alternative.
