Committee explores geothermal for future buildings

Energy & Sustainability Committee · Meeting of February 26, 2026

BEDFORD — Energy and Sustainability Committee weighs geothermal for upcoming renovations. The committee heard a presentation from HEET on geothermal heat networks and discussed implementing the technology for planned school boiler replacements over the next five years, with members noting that recent library and police station renovations had not explored the option. Committee members debated potential tax credits and governance structures.

The committee also voted 4-0-0 to co-sponsor a March 4 webinar with Tufts climate scientist Dr. William Moomaw on the impact of Hanscom private jet expansion on threatened trees.
