BEDFORD — The Commission on Disability approved June meeting minutes and heard concerns about winter sidewalk clearing. Bedford resident Todd Crowley presented data showing the town currently clears only 54 percent of its 43.9 miles of sidewalks, falling short of state ADA requirements. Crowley proposed a 24-hour snow-clearing mandate for all property owners with a 10 dollar fine for noncompliance.
DPW Director David Manugian acknowledged coverage gaps, particularly at bus shelters and visibility-blocking snow piles, and committed to clearing three specific bus shelters. The Commission took no formal action, with members expressing concerns about enforcement and hardship for seniors and disabled residents unable to meet a 24-hour deadline.
