Bedford Health Board revises tobacco regulation for Town Council; updates goals. The Board of Health, working with Cheryl Sbarra of the Massachusetts Association of Health Boards and Regional Tobacco Inspector Parivallal Thillaigovindan, conducted a page-by-page review of a Nicotine-Free Generation policy to restrict oral nicotine pouches, electronic vaping, and tobacco products. Oral nicotine pouch usage among high school students has climbed from 1 percent to 3.2 percent.
The board incorporated feedback on FDA authorization and permit non-transferability provisions and will send the revised draft to the Town Council. Strategic goals were updated, consolidating Ventilation and Vector-Borne Diseases under "Overall Health" and renaming "Multi-Generational" to "Multigenerational and Disability Access" to include Mental Health.
