Board of Health approves statement on director hiring authority

BEDFORD — Board of Health endorses charter amendments for health director hiring authority. The Board unanimously approved a statement supporting Annual Town Meeting Warrant Article 26, which would clarify the Board of Health's role in evaluating and approving the Director of Health and Human Services. Vice Chair Maureen R.
Richichi noted that while the proposed charter language requires Board approval for hiring, it does not extend the Board's authority to firing decisions, a power retained by the Town Manager. Chair Beatrice Brunkhorst will present the Board's statement at the Annual Town Meeting.
