Board of Assessors backs Veterans Hero Act for Town Meeting

Board of Assessors · Meeting of January 26, 2026

BEDFORD — Board of Assessors recommends Veterans Hero Act for Town Meeting. Chair Rebecca Neale led the board in unanimously recommending that the Select Board add the measure to the March warrant; the act indexes personal property tax exemptions for veterans to the Consumer Price Index, funded from the overlay account. The board also voted unanimously to recommend increasing the Senior Tax Work Off from $1,000 to $1,500 per household, per the Council on Aging's request.

Town Assessor Rick Ladd reported 17 pending abatement applications with a February 2 deadline. A significant volume of new residential growth permits have been pulled, predominantly condominium projects.
