Bicycle Advisory Committee approves prior minutes at joint winter meeting

Bedford's Bicycle and Transportation Advisory Committees met jointly to review transportation projects and safe-cycling planning. Capital Program Manager Jeanette Rebecchi updated both committees on Department of Public Works work at the Great Road Bottleneck and Bacon Street, plus a planned Reformatory Branch trail crossing on Route 62 for which the town has applied for a State construction grant in the region of $300,000. The Willson Park Planning Committee presented its attributes scoring matrix, with Safety weighting 43 percent, Traffic 22 percent, and Other 33 percent.
Northeastern University Professor Peter Furth's research on normalizing bicycling in towns was discussed, emphasizing that narrower car lanes do not reduce safety while creating space for bike infrastructure.
